Wo baat kar jo dil mein utar jaaye"
The eternal romantic Karan, started his journey in the media industry as a model quickly reaching the top. His indelible charm and affable personality paved way for almost 250 successful Ad campaigns. From soaps to shoes to cooking oil; you name the product and he was ‘the’ face of the brand.
His popularity as a model got him a lot of offers from TV producers. Karan however, was always very picky about what he took up and decided to start his acting career with a drama series called “Swabhimaan”. It was an immensely popular TV series and Karan joined the cast as a young teenager essaying the role of Bobby. The series was written by the acclaimed author ‘Shobha De’ and directed by ‘Mahesh Bhatt’.
This was his stepping stone into the world of TV. He did a second show called “Saaya” on Sony TV that made him a household name and one of the popular actors on TV.
His first love however, was always music. He continued singing jingles and at one point did the background music for a few serials he was a part of.
Karan was trained as a musician at a very young age. He plays around 20 instruments and continues his education learning Hindustani classical vocals till date.
A few more TV series followed, but the tug at his heart strings was too strong and he decided to take a sabbatical from TV despite being at the top of his game to pursue his first love; Music!
Karan came up with the idea of starting India’s first boy band and reached out to a few people from the industry. Before he knew it, his dream took shape and some of the biggest names in the music industry joined hands to make it come true. A country wide band hunt of unprecedented magnitude was launched famously known as “A Band of Boys”.
5 boys were selected by a panel of eminent judges including the likes of Hari Haran and Lesle Lewis. The boys were selected, groomed and trained for 18 months in all aspects of being pop stars. They were unveiled in 2002 with their first single – “Meri Neend Ud Gai Hai”, released under the music label, ‘Music Curry’.
The song was an unprecedented hit, smashed all records and went platinum in record time.
The boys had arrived!
Their next song, “Tu he Mera Pyaar Gori” went out to become an even bigger hit and the band became teen sensations.
Video after video just kept adding to their growing popularity and firmly established them as the top brand in the Indie Music Scene. Owing to their immense popularity, a semi autobiographical mainstream movie called “Kis Kis Ko” followed which was produced by Medient Entertainment (which Karan was a part of) and released by Eros International. Various albums like “Nain Katari”, “Aa Bhi Jaa” etc. released by Universal Worldwide and T Series made them a household name.
The Band continued their journey on various stages around the world with their live wire on stage performances during almost 800 shows across the globe.
Having the ability to multitask, Karan was not only performing as an artist but was also producing music videos for his own band, for others and also doing TV commercials by the name of his production company called ‘Crooner Studios’. He also turned a TV producer, producing a show for Zee TV called, ‘Zindagi Badal Sakta Hai Haadsa’ for Zee TV – A first of its kind storytelling daily thriller.
He hosted the very popular Zee Antakshari after the departure of Anu Kapoor as a host and also played the lead character in the path breaking series called “Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin” as Jassi’s love interest.
He also ventured into solo stage performances and his interactive performances coupled with a unique on stage story telling aspect are a big favourite with the audiences. He continues doing solo shows and performing with the Band of Boys.
Karan has finally released his single “Challa” on the digital platform through Eros Now. It hit 100,000 views in just a few days, which was quite uncharacteristic for an Indie album with purely organic growth. A full fledged Indie Pop Album is on the anvil.
